This is a digest of messages posted to: Parenting: 3 to 6-Month-Olds.breastfeeding and periodbreastfeeding and periodMessage #10: breastfeeding and period Posted by: boozemom09 Date: Dec 15, 2009.My little one is 4 months. I've been pumping/bottle feeding since 2 weeks. My supply has decreased and I've noticed some spotting. Other than that, no period. Yes, there is a possibility that you are pregnant, but if you are breastfeeding and on some birth control, I would say you are not.breastfeeding and periodMessage #11: breastfeeding and period Posted by: macangel92 Date: Dec 15, 2009.ugh I guess I'm super fertile because I got mine the first month after delivery...c-section pain?c-section pain?Message #2: c-section pain? Posted by: littleswampfox Date: Dec 15, 2009.I posted about this almost a month ago, because I was having some pain around my incision and thought that it was odd. I STILL have some occasionally. I didn't have any infection, but I did have a pretty rough section. My uterus wouldn't contract after the placenta was removed and the doctor came within about 45 seconds of doing an emergency hysterectomy. She said she was watching the clock and counting. But, fortunately, they were able to get the bleeding stopped at the last minute, so I am really lucky to still have my uterus... I don't really know what's still causing the pain. It's not unbearable by any means, but it does get a little aggravating sometimes...Parenting: 3 to 6-Month-OldsCurious about ApgarsInitial Message Posted by: macangel92 Date: Dec 15, 2009.So Chloe had an APGAR score of 2...and I was just wondering what everyone else's babies APGAR score was...Curious about ApgarsCurious about ApgarsMessage #1: Curious about Apgars Posted by: Poisongirl98 Date: Dec 15, 2009.My DS's was 9 both times...kinda surprising because he was having heartrate decelerations. Posted by: peachyga Date: Dec 15, 2009.It is possible for a baby to get thrown off the whack by traveling across the country, absolutely! I took DS1 to Japan a couple of times, and both times he was "off" for a few days after travel probably due to all the hassle and excitement of travel itself, tim
e difference, and the stress I was feeling from the travel. It's probably best to keep from introducing anything new for a few days, like solids if he just started on it. Try to keep the same daily routine at the local time, except bedtime since you're 4 hours behind it might be a bit tricky...say if he's used to going to bed at 9 pm ET here in GA, which is 5 pm Alaska, do the bedtime routine around 6 pm and off to bed around 7 pm, and push that back by half an hour a day or so until he's back on the "regular" bedtime. This is a digest of messages posted to: Parenting.Parenting: 3 to 6-Month-Olds3 mon. old w/ a cold, what to do?Initial Message Posted by: silviacindy Date: Dec 16, 2009.Hello Mommies, this is my first time writing in this blog. I had been in the newborn group up to now. My DS turned three months yesterday. Poor thing, he has a cold. He is coughing and sounds a little stuffing even though he can still breathe with his nose. I took him to the dr. yesterday and she said there isn't much to do give him since he is only 3 months old. I have been using the humidifier at night and I give him the saline drops (even though like I said he is not stuffing. Is this still a good ides then?) I also rub his back and chest with vicks vapor rub. He is pretty much sleepy all day. He has bee
n sleeping at night thank God. I thought he wasn't going to. He had not been drinking his milk to well for about a week now (he is on Gentlease). The last two days his poops have become more like diarrhea. Yesterday while at the Dr. he did it so I was able to show her. She said it seemed like he also got a stomach virus so she put him on Isolmil D.F. for three days. He has been drinking it perfectly well. Better then the Gentlease. I wonder if he no longer likes the taste of the gentlease. Can this happen? Also, is there any home remedy anyone suggests to treat the cold?3 mon. old w/ a cold, what to do?3 mon. old w/ a cold, what to do?Message #1: 3 mon. old w/ a cold, what to do? Posted by: peachyga Date: Dec 16, 2009.Yes, you can use Baby Vaporub. The funny thing is, it works really well also if you put it on soles of their feet, then put socks on them before bed. Ask many mommies here and they'll tell you it works. If the coughing gets heavy,
alternate between sitting in the bathroom with hot shower full-blast for 15 minutes, then out to cold air for 15 minutes. Elevate his head by putting rolled-up bath towels under the crib matress or get one of those wedges that goes under the crib sheet. Hydrate. It's easy to do with a 3-month old, since all they do is drink milk/formula. Isomil DF is simply a soy-_base_d formula with some rice cereal in it. Once the baby starts solids, and has a diarrhea, you'll learn to give BRATY diet - Banana, Rice, Apple, Toast, Yogurt. It is possible his taste buds are kind of whacked because of the cold, even if he doesn't sound congested. So follow the pedi's Rx for Isomil DF, and if he still has very runny stool then call them back to see if you need to start giving him some other fluid. The biggest concern is dehydration. Other than that, pretty much all you can do is cuddle and let it run its course. GL!3 mon. old w/ a c

He wasn't moving his extremeties and crying, was blue with irregular HR. Once they did a heel stick to check his blood sugar and gave him some glucose, he perked right back up. DS2 was born in a text book delivery, his APGAR was 7/9. I've heard that only a pediatrician's kids get APGAR of 10 For those wh
o don't have LO's APGARs, ask the pedi at the next visit; they should have a copy of the delivery and neonatal care charts from the hossy in the LO's medical records. How's Chloe doing, anyway?Parenting: 3 to 6-Month-OldsFerber/CIO questionInitial Message Posted by: kayleen4246 Date: Dec 16, 2009.Ok...I am almost embarrassed to ask this cause I'm pretty sure it's one of those "duh" questions but I'm going to blame this on pregnancy brain. (I'm a lurker with a 6 month old daugther and am 18 weeks pregnant so sleep deprivation could also be to blame). Anyways, we are going to attempt the Ferber method to sleep train DD Eirelynd. I haven't read the book (can't afford to buy it and I can't find it at the local library) but I get the jest of it. So my problem is...she goes down perfectly at night, fusses for maybe a minute
and than is out. The problem lies in that she is up every 2-3 hours from that point on averaging 4-5 wakings a night. Question is this- with each waking do you just start the checks again? Like if you had planned to check on them at 5, 7 and 9 mintues do you start back at the 5 again with the next waking? Do you just continue that until they stop crying? Also, she still eats at night but the pedi told us to stop this... how do you incorporate this in? Lastly, how long did this method take to see a change in your LO? Sorry this is so long...have to get back to work now. Thank you for any help/advice!!Ferber/CIO questionFerber/CIO questionMessage #1: Ferber/CIO question Posted by: lprice76 Date: Dec 16, 2009.Since I have no problem admitting I use CIO (some moms on here will think it's abuse and neglect but I think it's perfe
ctly ok to an extent) I'll try and help you. I never read the Ferber book but my pedi is a supporter of CIO once an infant reaches 3 months old. I make sure all her needs are met, fed, changed and in no pain at all times. This is what the pedi instructed me to do...when first starting CIO use the 10-15 minute rule, let them fuss for 10 - 15 minutes and if the crying gets more intense by the 15 minute mark then you go in and soothe them back to sleep. put them down and start all over again. It only lasted 3 days with my DD on the 4th day she would fuss for 5 minutes and then go to sleep so now I have the five minute rule (which I rarely ever have to go into to soothe her)....she'll fuss for five minutes and if by the end of that five minutes the fussing turns to screaming I know she needs something and I go in. 9 times out of 10 she just needs to be held and kissed and see daddy and then she'll smile and we'll know she's ok and we will put her down and she'll be
out for the night. I'm not a supporter of CIO I'm a supporter of whatever works for your baby and this has worked for us. I have no problem at all now with her falling asleep on her own or self soothing herself. She goes down wide awake and sleeps through the night with the occasional wake up for a midnight feeding (which I too have to cut out).Gift SuggestionsGift SuggestionsMessage #4: Gift Suggestions Posted by: Joyce0922 Date: Dec 16, 2009.I took my daycare workers some bagels from Panera. This is a digest of messages posted to: Parenting: 3 to 6-Month-Olds.A BIG PROBLEM....OMGA BIG PROBLEM....OMGMessage #19: A BIG PROBLEM....OMG Posted by: missflour Date: Dec 17, 2009.I don't have an endocrine disorder (that I know of) to explain my weight issues, but I too have an oddly shaped body, I have always gained weight in my belly and not near as much as anywhere else. Anyways, I understand the big boobs/smaller rib cage too... I am currently pregnant (my third) and am in a 42I at the moment, possibly to a 42J when I start nursing again. The best bra I have found is one of the fancee free bras.. here is a good website for it http://breakoutbras.stores.yahoo.net/fanfreexsupn.html
Another bit of advice that I picked up over the last several years: Most places (website or in a store) do not measure correctly for a larger boob woman. I came across a website a few years ago that eased my back pain quite a lot, it gave directions to measure correctly: With bra off, measure snugly just under the boob, this is your band size. (do not add any numbers to this, as most places say to do). With bra off, measure just under your arms, above the boob. With bra on, measure across the widest part of your boob. With bra on, measure just under the arms. If the underarm measurement with bra on is higher than without your bra, add the difference between the two to your bust measurement (this corrects for too small of a cup size in your current bra) So, if you measure at 40 inches above the boob with bra off, but 42 with it on, you add 2 inches to the measurement around the boob. Subtract your band size (under boob) from your around the boob size (bust size, with
any adjustments from above). For every inch difference, add a letter... for example, 1in is an A, 3 is a C etc. This formula has worked for me every timeParenting: 3 to 6-Month-Oldsacid reflux and medicationsInitial Message Posted by: lovingmommyhood21 Date: Dec 17, 2009.My little one is 12 weeks as of Tuesday, so we are new to this group She has acid reflux and we started her on Zantac when she was 8 weeks and it worked for about 2 weeks then we noticed it wasn't helping as much so our pediatrician switched her to Prevacit. Is any one else using this? It is so difficult to get all the particles disolved and into her mouth. I've tried a syringe, medicine dropper, mini medicine bottle but it is incredibly difficult to get all the medication to her. I haven't noticed a huge difference with this mediciation so with the hassle an
d the extra cost of it, I'm considering just going back to Zantac. Any advice? acid reflux and medicationsacid reflux and medicationsMessage #1: acid reflux and medications Posted by: maryf426 Date: Dec 17, 2009.This is exactly what we went through she started on Zantac at 8 weeks and the about 2 weeks later i noticed it helped a little but she was still having it told the pedi they gave us some sapmples of prevacid and told us to try it for about a week if she is still having problems or they get worse to go back to zantac and i never could get a all the paricles either i dont think it helped her at all so we went back to zantac and i called and asked if they could just up the dose of zantac since she was growing so much at the time she was on
1 ml twice a day and they upped it to 1.2 ml twice a day and that worked perfectly for her good luck!acid reflux and medicationsMessage #2: acid reflux and medications Posted by: erinsmom1964 Date: Dec 17, 2009.Zantac and prevacid are 2 totally different meds. Zantac neturilize acid so it doesnt burn so bad coming up. Prevacid helps shut down pumps that actually make acid so there is less acid in the stomach. Zantac alone only works on children with very mild cases of reflux. My DD has used Prevacid for 6 months and for us it is a miracle drug. It can be hard to give but one thing i have noticed is because my LO has been taking meds since she was 8 weeks old for a few months now anytime I have to give her anything it is a breeze because she is so used to taking meds 2x a day. You dont say how much your LO takes but i finally gave up on dissolving tabs in water and just
put it in her mouth , they take about 60 seconds to dissolve. Taste like strawberries. Prevacid takes 2 weeks for you to see full effect. Also Zantac is very weight specific meaning if your LO gains any weight the dose needs to be adjusted. Have you tried any no-medicine things to help? There is a wonderful website that has moms and expert staff that can help you. There is a list there of things you can do such as formula changes....raising head of bed....waiting at least 30 minutes after eating before alowwing LO to lay down etc http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/infant_acid_reflux/ HTHParenting: 3 to 6-Month-OldsAmber Teething NecklaceInitial Message Posted by: Jle21 Date: Dec 17, 2009.Curious if anyone has used these on t
heir babies? Reviews?Breastfeeding and Birth ControlInitial Message Posted by: ErinGA Date: Dec 17, 2009.So I started taking BCP when my LO was 6 wks and it lasted about a week. My milk production went way down as my OB expected it would. So I quit taking it immediately and about 3 days later my period started. It was SOOO heavy and lasted like a normal period. I dont expect that I would have had it if it werent for the BC situation since Im breastfeeding. I expected to have it regularly now but I havent gotten my period again. Is this normal? I guess I figured once it started the first time after having a baby it would continue every month.Breastfeeding and Birth ControlBreastfeeding and Birth ControlMessage #1: Breastfee
ding and Birth Control Posted by: cujaybird Date: Dec 17, 2009.Was it the mini pill? That's what I went on at 6 wks and it didn't hurt my milk and I still haven't gotten a period. The OB said the regular pill would hurt milk supply but the mini pill usually doesn't. As far as your period, the hormones from week's worth of pills could have just thrown you off, and if you are still bfing your period could stay away until you stop. That's my guess anyway.Breastfeeding and Birth ControlMessage #2: Breastfeeding and Birth Control Posted by: elegi23 Date: Dec 17, 2009.I was on the mini pill & I took 2 months of it & had to stop bc we can't afford it, but I still haven't had my AF. Was there a reason your OB put you on regular bc? My milk wasn't affected at all. I thought I was going to get AF once I stopped taking the pill, but it still hasn't come yet.Curious about ApgarsCurious about ApgarsMessage #8: Curious about Apgars Posted by: ImpossibleWoman Date: Dec 17, 2009.Zach's was 8/9. He had cord around his neck but tolerated it well except 2 major episodes of low heart rate. I thought for sure I was getting a c/s the 2nd time but they moved me around and put him on oxygen and he was OK.It's been a while! It's been a while!Message #1: It's been a while! Although I do gotta say getting it put in was torture cuz my cervix was completely closed and they had to open it which hurt terribly. I bled for about 3 days after I got it put in and then it stopped and I got a normal period within 4 weeks of having it put in and my period has came 1 after that normal period when it was supposed to. I was breastfeeding and it didnt change my supply what so ever but I chose to stop breast feeding when I returned to work. And it has increased my sex drive I think. I have had no adverse effects from it and pretty much love it. Although I am sad that the baby making machine has been put to a halt for a while. By the way my iud lasts 10 years rather than 5 like the mirena!IUD questionsMessage #6: IUD questions Posted by: bnn06 Date: Dec 17, 2009.I
